The State of Minnesota today reported a budget surplus of $329 million. Minnesota AFL-CIO President Bill McCarthy made the following statement:
“Today’s announcement is the ninth budget surplus under Governor Mark Dayton’s strong leadership.
“While some legislators might be tempted to shower corporations and the wealthy few with tax giveaways, working Minnesotans can’t afford a return to the chronic deficits, crumbling infrastructure, and vastly underfunded schools of the Pawlenty era.
“Minnesota is in a good financial situation, and we can focus on the needs of our state. We call on the Legislature and the Governor to invest this surplus in areas that benefit working families like strengthening our schools & public services, building job-creating infrastructure, and cracking down on wage theft.”
